2 minute tartar sauce recipe

You can serve this chunky and tangy tartar sauce with fish sticks, crab cakes, or fish and chips. Tartar sauce is undoubtedly the best condiment and sauce for seafood! Plus, you only need a few pantry staples to make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp capers drained and chopped
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice fresh or bottled
  • ¼ cup finely chopped pickles or relish
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped parsley dried works too
  • 2 tsp tarragon fresh or dried
  • 2 tsp dill fresh or dried
  • 2 tbsp olives optional
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, capers, lemon juice, pickles or relish, onion, tarragon, dill and parsley (if using).
  • Mix until all the ingredients are well combined. You can use a blender to make it smoother or mix by hand for a chunkier tartar sauce.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  • Store in the fridge for about 30-45 minutes until the sauce is cooled. Serve cold with your favorite dishes. Garnish with some fresh herbs or a lemon wedge.

Notes

  • I like to use bottled mayonnaise to save time. Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise is a tasty option and gives the perfect creamy texture for the tartar sauce.
  • If you don't have fresh lemon juice, you can use Iberia lemon juice concentrate and it's just as tasty.
  • Finally, you can use any capers but I prefer organic capers because they're a bit healthier.
